Deep Cleanings

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, can occur when bacteria from plaque gets trapped inside pockets between the gum and teeth, making it nearly impossible to clean with simple brushing. DentalMed Associates uses deep cleanings to remove this plaque and heal your gums.

What are Deep Cleanings?

Deep cleanings are also called scaling and root planing. They involve going below the surface of your gum to remove the built-up plaque and tartar. Once the procedure is complete, your gums should begin to naturally adhere to the teeth again.

What are the Symptoms of Gum Disease?

Gum disease can have multiple symptoms, so if you notice any of these, be sure to visit us right away so we can act immediately.

  • Constant bad breath

  • Teeth have moved or shifted

  • Bleeding, inflamed, or tender gums

  • Teeth feel loose

  • Pain

  • Preventative loss of teeth

What is the Deep Cleaning Process?

A deep cleaning process may take one or multiple visits depending on the severity of your situation. We will begin by numbing the area with a local anesthetic before removing the plaque on your teeth and inside any pockets that have formed. The roots will then be smoothed to ensure that the area heals correctly.

Need a Deep Cleaning?

If you feel like you might require a deep cleaning due to gum disease symptoms, it is best to see us as soon as possible. Waiting too long will worsen the situation, potentially causing loose teeth or even tooth loss. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
